New technology trends: Mobiles, tablets, Android, book readers & ePub in teaching and learning
Invitation to the LTS event on Thursday 24 March 2011
13.00-14.00 (with a buffet lunch available from 12.40): CARET, 16 Mill Lane
Your students may arrive at the University not just with computers to view back lecture notes or play audio-visual media, but a range of other portable devices, such as smart phones, media players, GPS-enabled cameras, tablets, and e-book readers. What do these new technologies mean for teaching and learning? In this talk, we'll demonstrate the capabilities of some of these devices, and show how some techniques to deploy content for learning. We will look at tools such as eXe to create learning objects, and Calibre to create ePub for ebook readers, how to use Android to deploy applications, as well as audio-visual materials for media players. We'll run the session as interactively as possible, with plenty of space for questions. If you have portable devices, bring them along for show and tell!
