Rasperry Pi for access to content
So we have messed around with Soekris servers a lot, for serving resources eg. at a Zambian school. I'd like to explore the use of a raspberry pi (or maybe a beagle board) for this. Performance is a concern. We'd just want to serve files I think, plus maybe run a dropbox-type service.
We have used this server: Soekris, net6501-70: 1.6 Ghz CPU, 2 Gbyte DDR2-SDRAM, 4 Gigabit Ethernet Ports. "This compact, low-power, low-cost, advanced communication computer is based on an up to 1.6 Ghz Intel Atom E6xx series processor. It has four 10/100/1000 Mbit ethernet ports, up to 2 Gbyte DDR2-SDRAM main memory and uses a USB flash drive or mSATA module for program and data storage. It can be expanded using MiniPCI-Express boards, hard drives and low-power standard PCI-Express boards."
So it has a faster clock speed (though perhaps the processor is older than what's in RPi), and 4 times as much ram, which will make a difference. Thoughts?
